- Delete the big ones. Call of Duty with Warzone can take about 165 GB; Red Dead Redemption 2 and NBA 2K26 over 100 GB each. Saves stay in the cloud, so you can reinstall later. More in our GTA 6 file size guide.
- PS5: add an M.2 SSD. Every PS5 has a spare M.2 slot. Use a PCIe 4.0 drive with a heatsink, and install GTA 6 straight onto it.
- Xbox: add an expansion card. It plugs into the back and runs Series X|S games at full speed. A USB drive can store games but can't play them.
Do it before pre-load opens on November 12; the rest of the prep is in our launch checklist.
FAQ
How big is GTA 6?
Rockstar hasn't announced it as of October 14, 2026. Estimates put the install at 150–200 GB, plus a day-one patch, so clear about 250 GB.
Is a 512 GB Xbox Series S enough for GTA 6?
It should fit: the 512 GB Series S has 364 GB usable, so GTA 6 alone takes most of it. Expect to delete other big games or add an expansion card.
Can I play GTA 6 from a USB drive?
You can store it on a USB drive, but not play it from one. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S games must run from the internal SSD, a PS5 M.2 SSD or an Xbox expansion card.
When will the GTA 6 file size be official?
When the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store pre-load pages go live, expected around November 12, 2026. This calculator updates the same day.
