The region trick

Setting your console account to New Zealand has let players into some games up to a day early, because games that unlock at midnight local time unlock there first. Why 150–200 GB is the realistic range

Red Dead Redemption 2 is about 150 GB on PS5 and GTA 5 about 95 GB. GTA 6 has a bigger map, higher-resolution assets and far more recorded dialogue, so 150–200 GB is the straight-line extrapolation. Anything much beyond that would be unprecedented for a console game.

Check free space: PS5 Settings → Storage; Xbox My games & apps → Manage.
Delete games you haven't opened in months. Saves stay in the cloud.
If you own an expansion SSD, install GTA 6 there; a USB drive is too slow for current-gen games.

Why Rockstar dropped it

Rockstar's explanation centres on animation. GTA 6's character animation is built for the third-person camera, and a full first-person mode would need most of it rebuilt. GTA 5 only gained first-person with the PS4 and Xbox One re-release in 2014, a year after launch, so a later update is possible but not promised.

About the leaked footage

A gameplay leak from October 2026 appears to show first-person driving. It's from a development build and unverified. We treat it as a rumor until Rockstar shows it.

What "PS5 Pro Enhanced" actually means

The label only requires one of: a higher resolution, a higher frame rate, or added ray-tracing effects compared with the base PS5. It does not promise 60 fps. Many Pro Enhanced games run at 30 fps with better image quality.

Why 60 fps is in doubt

The PS5 Pro's GPU is much faster, but its CPU is nearly the same Zen 2 chip as the base PS5 with a small clock bump. Open-world games with dense traffic and crowds are CPU-heavy, which is why analysts like Digital Foundry are cautious. A 40 fps mode is the more realistic middle ground, but it is not announced.

Should you buy a PS5 Pro for GTA 6?

Trailer 1

Rockstar released it early after it leaked online. It opens with Lucia in a prison interview, then cuts to a montage of Leonida life: viral clips, beaches, swamps and Vice City nightlife. It ends with Lucia and Jason pulling off robberies together. It became the most-viewed non-music video on YouTube in its first 24 hours.

Trailer 2

This one is about the couple. Jason picks Lucia up from prison, and the story builds toward a job going wrong. It introduced Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, Real Dimez, Raul Bautista and Brian Heder. See our characters guide.

GTA 6 Trophies and Achievements: What We Know

There is no official GTA 6 trophy or achievement list as of October 13, 2026. Every modern Rockstar game has shipped with a full set, so expect a Platinum on PS5 and 1,000 Gamerscore on Xbox. Lists usually appear on the store a few days before launch; this post will carry the full list when it does.

Do cheats disable trophies?

In GTA 5 and RDR2, entering a cheat blocked trophies and achievements for that session until you reloaded a save. GTA 6 will almost certainly do the same. Keep a clean save before you try any cheats.

What if Rockstar picks a single global time?

Some publishers unlock worldwide at one moment instead. If Rockstar does that, this table changes and we'll replace it. Until then, treat midnight local as the plan and check your console's store page on launch day; it shows the exact unlock for your account's region.

The region trick

In past launches, players set their PlayStation or Xbox account region to New Zealand to unlock games up to a day early. It has worked for some Rockstar titles and not others, and it can break pre-orders, DLC codes and the Vintage Vice City Pack bonus tied to your original store region. We don't recommend it for a $79.99 game. Pre-load from November 12 instead so you're playing the second it unlocks; steps in How to pre-load GTA 6.

Before the clock hits zero

Pre-load is done and the game shows Ready to play (not just downloaded) on your console.
Console system software is updated.
Rest mode is on so a day-one patch installs overnight.

The figure comes from Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson, who said his most recent playthrough took about that long, including some optional content. Rockstar has not published an official length, so treat 80 hours as the best-supported estimate as of October 13, 2026.

How to Pre-load GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

To pre-load GTA 6, pre-order the digital version on the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store. The download starts on November 12, 2026, one week before launch. The game stays locked until it unlocks on November 19.

Before you start

Buy digital, or redeem your boxed copy's code. Physical copies are reported to contain a download code rather than a disc, so they download the same way.
Clear storage space. Rockstar hasn't confirmed the download size yet. Expect a very large install and leave plenty of free space.
Leave your console in rest mode so the download keeps running while you're away.

PS5

Open the PlayStation Store and search for Grand Theft Auto VI.
Pre-order your edition (Standard or Ultimate).
Go to Settings → System → Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode and turn on Stay Connected to the Internet.
From November 12, the download should start automatically. If it doesn't, open the game from your library and select Download.

Xbox Series X|S

Open the Microsoft Store on your console and find Grand Theft Auto VI.
Pre-order your edition.
Go to Settings → General → Power options and choose Sleep so downloads can run in the background.
From November 12, check My games & apps → Manage → Queue. The game should download automatically, or you can start it from there.
