Rockstar has not published GTA 6’s file size yet. As of October 13, 2026, the best estimates put the install at 150–200 GB, with a day-one patch on top, so free up around 250 GB before pre-load opens on November 12. The official number will appear on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store listings before pre-loading starts.
What we know
| Question | Answer (as of Oct 13, 2026) |
|---|---|
| Official file size | Not announced |
| Estimated install | 150–200 GB |
| Day-one patch | Estimated 15–50 GB; unconfirmed |
| Safe amount to clear | ~250 GB |
| Xbox Series S | Same game, likely a smaller package; unconfirmed |
| The “677 GB” screenshot | Fake. No Xbox listing ever showed it, and it wouldn’t fit on a console SSD |
Why 150–200 GB is the realistic range
Red Dead Redemption 2 is about 150 GB on PS5 and GTA 5 about 95 GB. GTA 6 has a bigger map, higher-resolution assets and far more recorded dialogue, so 150–200 GB is the straight-line extrapolation. Anything much beyond that would be unprecedented for a console game.
How to make room
- Check free space: PS5 Settings → Storage; Xbox My games & apps → Manage.
- Delete games you haven’t opened in months. Saves stay in the cloud.
- If you own an expansion SSD, install GTA 6 there; a USB drive is too slow for current-gen games.
- Do this before November 12 so pre-load runs the moment it opens. Steps in How to pre-load GTA 6.
