GTA 6 is the fourth time the series has visited Vice City, Rockstar’s take on Miami, and the first set in the present day. Here’s how the city has changed.

Every visit to Vice City

Year Game Setting
1997 Grand Theft Auto One of three cities in the original top-down game
2002 GTA: Vice City 1986, with Tommy Vercetti
2006 GTA: Vice City Stories 1984, with Victor Vance
2026 GTA 6 Present day, inside the state of Leonida

GTA: Vice City (2002)

The one fans remember. Neon, pastel suits, an ’80s soundtrack and a story inspired by Scarface and Miami Vice. Tommy Vercetti’s rise from ex-con to kingpin made it one of the best-loved GTAs.

Vice City Stories (2006)

A prequel set two years earlier, starring Victor Vance. It launched on PSP before coming to PS2, and added empire-building across the city.

Vice City in GTA 6

This time Vice City is one part of a whole state. Leonida adds the Keys, the Grassrivers wetlands, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga around it. The tone is modern: social media, viral clips and Florida-style chaos. See our map guide.

FAQ

Is GTA 6 a remake of Vice City?

No. It’s a new story in a modern, much bigger Vice City.

Do any old characters return?

None confirmed. The pre-order bonus nods to Tommy Vercetti with a tropical weapon pattern.
