GTA 6 will not have a full first-person mode at launch. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson said so in interviews in 2026. You can still switch to a first-person view when aiming certain weapons. First-person on foot and in vehicles, as in GTA 5, is not confirmed as of October 13, 2026.

What’s confirmed

Feature Status
Third-person play Confirmed
First-person aiming with some weapons Confirmed
Full first-person on foot Not at launch
First-person driving Rumor (leaked footage, unverified)
First-person added in a later update Unknown

Why Rockstar dropped it

Rockstar’s explanation centres on animation. GTA 6’s character animation is built for the third-person camera, and a full first-person mode would need most of it rebuilt. GTA 5 only gained first-person with the PS4 and Xbox One re-release in 2014, a year after launch, so a later update is possible but not promised.

About the leaked footage

A gameplay leak from October 2026 appears to show first-person driving. It’s from a development build and unverified. We treat it as a rumor until Rockstar shows it.
